The short answer

Small bathroom renovation in Cork: the short answer

A small bathroom of 2 to 4 m² costs €4,000 to €9,000 to renovate in Cork with the layout kept. The biggest savings are keeping the toilet and shower where they are and tiling only the wet areas.

What fits

Making 2 to 4 m² work

A walk-in shower with a fixed screen instead of a bath.
A wall-hung toilet and basin, so the floor runs under them.
A sliding or outward-opening door.
Shelves set into the stud wall instead of a cabinet.
Large tiles and few grout lines, the same on floor and walls.
A strong, quiet fan. Small rooms steam up first.

The tiling sum

Why tiling is the big line

A 4 m² floor with the walls tiled to 2.4 m is about 25 to 30 m² of tiling. At €35 to €60 a m² for the labour, that's a real part of the price before a tile is bought. Tiling the shower walls fully and painting the rest cuts it.

Questions

Questions people ask us

How much is a small bathroom renovation in Cork?

€4,000 to €9,000 for a small bathroom of 2 to 4 m² with the layout kept. Moving the toilet or shower adds €500 to €1,500.

Can a walk-in shower fit a small bathroom?

Usually, where the bath was, with a low tray and a fixed glass panel. A 1,200 mm shower fits in the space of a 1,700 mm bath with room to spare.

Should every wall be tiled?

No. Only the wet areas need tiles. Bathroom paint on the rest saves tiling labour and looks clean.

Do big tiles work in a small bathroom?

Yes. Fewer grout lines make the room look bigger, and the same tile on the floor and walls helps too. They take longer to lay, so the labour costs a little more.
